Design and Technology Outing

by: Mario Saliba

The group in the Design and Technology Workshop at Stella Maris College

On Monday 3rd May students learning design and technology at our school went for an educational outing in Malta to visit Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and Stella Maris College in Gzira.

The aim of this educational visit at Simonds Farsons Cisk plc is for the students to observe the making process of beer and carbonated water, how they are bottled and packed for the market. The students had the opportunity to see the bottle making process using PET; a recyclable plastic used to make softdrink bottles. The whole visit was conducted by two guides who explained in detail various sections of the factory. The visit was concluded with a drink at the factory guest hall.

From Simonds Farsons Cisk plc then the group moved to Stella Maris College in Gzira. This is a church school were design and technology has been taught for several years. Here our students saw others projects done by other students. Mr Sultana, a design and technology teacher, welcomed us and demonstrated various plastic forming techniques using vacuum forming and line bender.
