Students visit Rome and Chieti

From the 16th till the 20th of March, a group of 19 students had the fantastic opportunity to travel to Italy and enjoy a unique experience. This educational trip was divided in two parts. For the first two days, the group explored Rome and its monuments, piazzas, churches and treasures. During the other three days, the students visited Chieti, a medieval hill top town in Abruzzo, as part of a Comenius Project Meeting.
Among the high-lights of the short stay in Rome one must surely include the Vatican Museum, St Peter’s Basilica and the Colosseum. The group had also time to see Trevi Fountain, The Panteon and the beautiful Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, and Piazza del Popolo.

The visit in Chieti was related to our school Comenius Project ‘LET’S LEARN THROUGH OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE AND ITS DIVERSITY’. The group visited the Secondo Circolo Didattico (primary school) as this school is also participating in this project. There were 7 other European schools participating in the same project from Germany, Spain, Poland, Turkey and Hungary. Our hosts were Signora Doralice DeNobili (Head of School) and Signora Donatella Iezzi (co-ordinating teacher).

While in Chieti the group met the dignitaries of the town. These were the Archbishop of Chieti, the Mayor and the President of the Chieti Province. The group also visited interesting Roman Ruins, a classical Villa (now an archeological museum), the Municipality and the Cathedral of Chieti. The secondary school in Chieti were also very happy to have us visit them.

The Italian style feast prepared for all of the guests in Chieti, was one to remember. Everyone ate delicious food and for the adults there was some really nice wine. There was folk music and dance. Young and old alike all joined in the fun. The nicest aspect of this gathering was the fact that families whose children attend the Secondo Circolo Didattico were also present at the party. Our students could therefore mingle with these children and make new friends.
